Austin, Texas
The Texas Capital Area Chapter conducted a general membership meeting at Camp Mabry in their headquarters auditorium.
Our guest speaker was COL (Ret) Daniel S. Morgan, Senior Director for Business Operations and Planning for Teledyne FLIR Defense. COL Morgan is also a highly regarded author. He is the author of Chasing the White Rabbit: Lessons from the Battlefield to the Boardroom and Black Hearts and Painted Gun: A Battalion’s Journey into Iraq’s Triangle of Death, as well as author of numerous articles on policy and defense.
COL (Ret) Morgan is a retired US Army infantry officer with extensive domestic and international experience in geopolitics and negotiations. Dan’s last assignment was as the Senior Fellow to the Council on Foreign Relations where he provided analysis to military and business leaders on technology and war for the future. COL Morgan deployed to combat, peacemaking, and noncombatant evacuations operations in Eastern Europe, Africa, and Iraq and Afghanistan. During his public service, he received two Legions of Merit, six Bronze Star medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Executive Office of the President.
COL Morgan provided an interesting and insightful discussion of the combat experiences of himself and SPC Kelly Eads, his co-author of Black Hearts and Painted Gun: A Battalion’s Journey into Iraq’s Triangle of Death. He spoke on how trust is everything in the battlefield, how much Love, Bravery and Commitment our soldiers have for our country. He also discussed Compassion Fatigue in which a soldier (or individual for that matter) is so accustomed to seeing bad things happening that they (we) no longer seem to care.
COL Morgan is a true American hero warrior who gives back to his communities by volunteering to support veterans and Gold Star Families.
Our meeting was attended by members of the Texas Army National Guard, community leaders in industry, and retired military members of our chapter. COL (Ret) Patterson presented a gift to COL (Ret) Morgan the guest speaker.
Our next meeting will be on 5 June when we will celebrate the US Army Birthday with the Texas Army National Guard.
