The Texas Capital Area Chapter helped sponsor ROTC cadets who wished to attend the Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) at the Texas A&M University. Our Immediate Past President MG (ret) Bob Halverson with the help of TXARNG MG (ret) Daren Owens coordinated with the Professor of Military Science at Colorado State University (MG Halverson’s Alma Mata) to select, prepare and sponsor two Army ROTC Cadets attend The Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) 69 in February 2024.

SCONA is an annual collegiate conference that brings delegates from all over the nation and the world. Each year, SCONA discusses a different topic of national importance, giving delegates the chance to interact with the nation's highest academic scholars, government officials, and well-known public figures. Delegates also participate in the debate through facilitated roundtables that culminate in a policy paper and power point presentation. All the service academies have delegates. Usually about 25 different institutions attend to include several ROTC Cadets, which is a very rare opportunity for college level students and future military officers. The MSC Student Conference On National Affairs, or MSC SCONA, is the oldest student organization in the Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University in College Station.

February 15-17, 2024, the student-run organization will host the 69th conference and continue the legacy of building up future leaders to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.
Each Year the United States Army War College facilitates the ISCNE in coordination with MSC SCONA. This year’s theme was “Two Koreas, One Future: A Diplomatic Situation.” Students have the option to participate in both the ISCNE and MSC SCONA.
