LTG Donna W. Martin, U.S. Army

LTG Donna W. Martin assumed responsibility as The 67th Inspector General of the United States Army on September 2, 2021.

LTG Martin is a native of Yorktown, Virginia, and a graduate of Old Dominion University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and she was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Military Police Corps in 1988. LTG Martin also earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.

LTG Martin was previously the Provost Marshal General of the U.S. Army, serving as the principal military advisor to the Secretary of the Army and the Chief of Staff of the Army on policing matters, including law enforcement, criminal investigations, criminal intelligence corrections, biometrics and forensics, physical security, high-risk personnel security, antiterrorism, and detention operations. Concurrently, LTG Martin served as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, serving as the Department of the Army’s independent criminal investigative authority.

LTG Martin has served in a variety of staff positions from Battalion to Combatant Command (USPACOM). In 2006, she commanded the 385th Military Police Battalion (Dragoons) at Fort Stewart, Georgia. The battalion headquarters deployed to Afghanistan from 2006-2008, providing command and control to seven Military Police units and a National Guard field artillery battery. After battalion command, she remained at Fort Stewart to serve as the Inspector General of the 3rd Infantry Division, and deployed to Iraq in October 2009.

LTG Martin has also commanded twice at the brigade level. She commanded the 202d Military Police Group (Criminal Investigation Division) at Kaiserslautern, Germany, from July 2011 until May 2013. In June 2013, she assumed command of the Rear Detachment of the 18th Military Police Brigade. One year later, in June 2014, she reported for duty as the Chief of Investigations, HQDA Inspector General Agency. From March 2015 until June 2017, LTG Martin assumed duties as the Deputy Commanding General, United States Army Recruiting Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky. From June 2017 to August 2018, she served as the Chief of the Military Police Corps Regiment and Commandant of the Military Police School. From August 2018 to July 2020, LTG Martin commanded the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After command in July 2020, LTG Martin became the eighteenth Provost Marshal General and the fifteenth Commanding General of U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.

LTG Martin’s military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; and an Army Achievement Medal.
