Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Timothy M. Gilhool is a native of Riverview, Michigan.  He is a 1992 graduate of the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and was commissioned a Quartermaster Officer in the United States Army.   

His duty assignments include numerous tactical and training assignments in CONUS and OCONUS, including Chief, Joint Visitors Bureau, Joint Task Force (JTF) Fuerte Apoyo (Hurricane Mitch), El Salvador; 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC and New Orleans, LA (Operation ALL AMERICAN ASSIST, Hurricane Katrina response); 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC and Tikrit, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; Battalion Commander, 782nd BSB, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; and Division G-5 / Chief of Plans, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC.  His last duty assignment on active duty was as a Strategic Planner in the Executive Strategy Group, Office of the Chief of Staff, Army, The Pentagon, Washington D.C.   

LTC(R) Gilhool is a graduate of the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Officers Advanced Course, the Combined Arms Services Staff School, the US Army Command & General Staff School, the Advanced Military Studies Program (SAMS), the US Army Airborne and Air Assault schools, Aerial Delivery & Material Officers Course, and US Army Advanced Airborne School Jumpmaster course.  He also holds a Masters of Arts degree in History from the University of Richmond and a Masters of Military Arts & Science in Theater Operations from the US Army Command & General Staff College.   

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (w/ OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (w/ 4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (w/ 2 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (w/ OLC), Valorous Unit Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Afghan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Award, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd award), NATO Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), Senior Parachutist, Air Assault, and Parachute Rigger badges.  

Since May 2019, LTC(R) Gilhool has served as Command Historian for the US Army CASCOM and Fort Lee, VA.  He is married to Army Logistics University President SES Sydney Anne Smith, and they have 2 children both attending college in Virginia.
