General Kim, Byeong-Joo was born in January 1962 and graduated from Korea Military Academy in 1984.

General Kim is currently the Deputy Commander, Combined Forces Command and the Commander, Ground Component Command.

General Kim has served as commander of an artillery battalion in the 28th Infantry Division, Republic of Korea liason officer to the U.S. Central Command, military committee meeting officer in ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff, executive officer to Combined Forces Command Deputy Commanding General, commander of an artillery regiment in the 6th Infantry Division, joint fires chief for the ROK JCS, commander of the 2nd Artillery Brigade, deputy director general for strategic planning in the ROK JCS J5, 30th Mechanized Infantry Division Commanding General, Army Missile Command CG and 3rd Corps CG.

General Kim holds a masters degree in business administration from Chonnam National University and a PHD in politics from Kyonggi University.

General Kim is married with one son and one daughter.
