ILW Rogers Strategic Issues Forum
Institute of Land Warfare Hosts GEN David Perkins
May 11, 2017
AUSA Conference & Event Center
In May 2012 General Gordon R. Sullivan, USA Ret., then president of the Association of the United States Army, wrote to apprise Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin E. Dempsey of the General Bernard W. Rogers Strategic Issues Forum—AUSA’s latest initiative to inform and continue the public debate on critical defense issues, particularly those related to landpower. In that letter General Sullivan also invited General Dempsey to be the inaugural speaker.
General Dempsey accepted that invitation and—with generous support from General Dynamics—AUSA launched the Rogers Strategic Issues Forum series just a few months later, in September 2012.
Since that inaugural event, AUSA has hosted Rogers Forums featuring, among others, General Carter Ham, USA (then commander, U.S. Africa Command), Admiral James “Sandy” Winnefeld, USN (then Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff), General John Abizaid, USA Ret. (former commander, U.S. Central Command), General Michael V. Hayden, U.S. Air Force Retired, Former Director, National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Agency; General Edward C. Cardon, Director, Office of Business Transformation, Former Commanding General of U.S. Cyber Command.
These early-evening events feature senior leaders in the uniformed services, the Department of State, academia and think tanks. These events—four to six annually—are tailored to critical issues affecting land forces and strategy.
General Rogers’ 44 years of distinguished active service to the Army and the nation culminated with appointments as the 28th Chief of Staff, Army, and then Supreme Allied Commander Europe. A 1943 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he was also a Rhodes Scholar. A long-time supporter of AUSA, he served on our Council of Trustees for many years. We thought it appropriate to name our landpower strategy lecture series in honor of this outstanding Soldier, scholar and diplomat.
AUSA welcomes all members, employees or consultants of AUSA Member companies, military and civilian government personnel, invited guests, and non-members that are interested.
