General Dempsey accepted that invitation and—with generous support from General Dynamics—AUSA launched the Rogers Strategic Issues Forum series just a few months later, in September 2012.
Since that inaugural event, AUSA has hosted Rogers Forums featuring, among others, GEN Stephen J. Townsend, Commanding General, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command; Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel A. Dailey; General Joseph Lengyel, Chief of the National Guard Bureau; Lieutenant General Nadja Y. West, Surgeon General of the U.S. Army and Commanding General, U.S. Army Medical Command; and Robert M. Speer, then Acting Secretary of the Army.
These early-evening events feature senior leaders in the uniformed services, the Department of State, academia and think tanks and are tailored to critical issues affecting land forces and strategy.
General Rogers’ 44 years of distinguished active service to the Army and the nation culminated with appointments as the 28th Chief of Staff, Army, and then Supreme Allied Commander Europe. A 1943 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he was also a Rhodes Scholar. A long-time supporter of AUSA, he served on our Council of Trustees for many years. We thought it appropriate to name our landpower strategy lecture series in honor of this outstanding Soldier, scholar and diplomat.
