Army Ten-Miler and GEICO officials announced that runners attending the Army Ten-Miler’s Pre-Race GEICO Pasta Dinner are in for a special event and experience.
Highlighting the dinner, attendees will meet the senior enlisted leadership of the Army.
Sgt. Maj. of the Army Raymond Chandler; Command Sgt. Maj. Brunk Conley, command sergeant major of the Army National Guard; and Command Sgt. Maj. Luther Thomas Jr., command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Reserve, will speak Oct. 19 at the race’s dinner.
The Army Ten-Miler – with over 35,000 runners registered – will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, the day before the Association of the United States Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition, Oct. 21 – 23, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Priority Registration, presented by Navy Federal Credit Union, opened on May 1 and sold out in 11 hours.
Ten thousand entries were reserved in this session for U.S. service members and runners who have run seven or more Ten-Milers.
The May 15 General Registration, opened to the general public with the remaining 25,000 and sold out in nine hours.
The race’s Online Transfer Program, that opened June 1, will be in effect until Aug. 30.
The online transfer process is secure and easy to use.
Sellers are responsible for finding buyers and coordinating payment terms. The actual transfer of registration is conducted online and a small administrative fee is applied.
All parties receive an e-mail confirming the transaction has been processed.
Historically, over 1,200 runners enter the Army’s race through the Online Transfer Program.
"Buyer and Seller Discussion Boards" are posted on the Transfer Page of the race’s website, www.armytenmiler.com, for registered runners and non-registered runners to connect.
They can also connect on the Ten-Miler Facebook page.
Race officials also urge non-registered runners to leverage their family, fellow workers and runners, and social networks. Other online bulletin boards and discussion group sites where runners connect are MarathonGuide.com, Runners World Forums, Craigslist.org and Army Knowledge Online (AKO).
The all-you-can-eat GEICO pasta dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Va.
Packet pick up and EXPO location
Packet pick up for individuals and teams will be conducted again at the DC Armory, 2001 East Capitol Street, near RFK Stadium in Washington.
The armory is located at the Stadium/Army Metro stop on the Blue and Orange lines. Free parking is also available in parking lot 3.
Packet pick up and the ATM Expo, presented by Boeing, featuring official Army Ten-Miler gear, sports apparel, equipment and merchandise, gifts, souvenirs and much more – to include exciting indoor and outdoor Army displays – is free to the public and will run Oct. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.
There is no race day packet pick up.
The Army Ten-Miler HOOAH Tent area, on race day, features U.S. military commands and units from around the world promoting their "Army Spirit" and their mission.
Runners and spectators have the unique opportunity to interact with soldiers, experience the esprit de corps, and enjoy the festive displays, music, and other activities that HOOAH Tents have to offer.
The HOOAH Tent tradition started back in the early 1990s when a few commands arranged for tents to support their teams and show their Army spirit. That tradition has grown to include over 85 tents.
