Our Community Partner Team Members attended a distinguished
speaker series session with MG Richard ‘Ross’ Coffman, 
Director of the Next Generation Combat Vehicles Cross Functional Team.

MG Coffman lead an insightful discussion on his priorities, 
challenges, and strategy for the NGCV CFT as well as provided 
insights on NGCV’s role in Project Convergence 2022 (PC22). 
We were very fortunate to have this great leader sharing how he 
and his team are driving innovation and developing technology 
for our Warfighters!

Bio:
MG Ross Coffman graduated from Centre College and earned his 
commission as an Armor Officer from the University of Kentucky.

He was first assigned to 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry 
Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas where he served as a Platoon 
Leader, Troop Executive Officer, and Regimental Reconnaissance 
Detachment Commander. During this assignment, the unit deployed 
to Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Operations Desert Shield and Storm.

Following the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Fort Knox, 
Kentucky, MG Coffman then served with 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry 
Regiment as Squadron Maintenance Officer, Adjutant, and Troop 
Commander with deployments to Haiti and Bosnia.

After Troop Command, MG Coffman served as an Observer Controller 
at the National Training Center with the Cobra Team and attended 
the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

He joined the 3rd Infantry Division in 2002 and deployed as 
an operations officer during the invasion of Iraq and later 
as a Brigade Operations Officer and Executive Officer during OIF III.

Following his assignment to Fort Stewart, MG Coffman joined 
Joint Inter-Agency Task Force South (JIATF-S) in Key West, Florida 
and conducted counter narcotics operations in the SOUTHCOM AOR.

MG Coffman next returned to Fort Stewart, Georgia and commanded 
1-64 Combined Arms Battalion during its deployment to Northern Iraq, 
and later served as the 3rd Infantry Division G-3.

MG Coffman then attended Harvard University as an AWC National 
Security Fellow and Commanded 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division 
and the NTC’s Operations Group.

Following Command, MG Coffman served as the 1st Infantry Division’s 
Deputy Commanding General for Maneuver with service at Fort Riley, 
Kansas and Poland.

MG Coffman has been a member of incredible units that were 
awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, The Valorous Unit Award, 
The Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, and 
The Superior unit award.
