The immediate past president of the Texas Capital Area Chapter, MG (Ret) Robert Halverson, and Mrs. Meredith Crawford, Community Partner Representative from the University of Texas at Austin, attended a special event at the Army Futures Command headquarters on 25 May 2023. 

The event was in honor of the Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month celebrations. The guest speaker was General (Ret) Eric K. Shinseki. General Shinseki had an impressive career, making significant contributions to both the U.S. Army as the 34th Chief of Staff of the Army and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). During his time as U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, he worked to improve healthcare services and benefits for veterans. 

General Shinseki's remarks were well received and our AUSA chapter was happy to be part of the recognization of the Asian/Pacific American Heritage contributions to our Nation. MG (Ret) Robert Halverson had served with General Shinseki during his military career and it was awesome to share time with the General and welcome him to Austin, Texas.
