Chapter Awards & Gift Presentation at AFC's Best Squad/Warrior Competition

Chapter president, COL (R) Garry Patterson, attended the US Army Futures Command ceremony to honor the Best Warrior/Squad/NCO for 2023 at the Army Futures Command Headquarters.

The awards ceremony recognized the exceptional service and dedication of the soldiers and NCOs competing in this year's Best Warrior/Squad competition. There were squads representing Army Futures Command, US Army North, and US Army South Commands. The competition was conducted in the field at Camp Bullis near San Antonio, Texas as well at Army Futures Command Headquarters in Austin, Texas.

CSM Brian A. Hester was the keynote speaker at the awards program. During the program, medals and certificates were presented to the Best Squad and the Best NCO from the competition. The Texas Capital Area Chapter presented a gift bag with AUSA information, and two books (US Army Campaign Ribbons and Sergeant Major of the Army Quotes Book) to each soldier. The best squad soldiers were also presented with a Texas Capital Area Chapter challenge coin. The Best NCO and Soldier were presented with a premium membership gift paid by the Texas Capital Area Chapter.

The Best Squad was from the USA Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) from Fort Detrick, Maryland. This squad will compete at the national level in Washington D.C in September 2023. The event was an excellent opportunity for these soldiers to learn about the support of AUSA to the Army and allowed our Chapter President to engage and challenge these soldiers to join AUSA and be apart of an association which supports the US Army.

The Best NCO award was presented to SGT Tyler Nace and the Best Soldier Award was presented to PFC Rollian Morgan. Our chapter provided a gift of a premium membership for these two deserving soldiers. The event was an awesome ceremony and well received by family and service members attending from the Army Futures Command.
