Retired Col. Ralph Puckett, a legendary and revered Army Ranger who fought in Korea and Vietnam, is the subject of the latest graphic novel in the Association of the U.S. Army’s series on recipients of the Medal of Honor. 

Medal of Honor: Ralph Puckett tells of Puckett’s actions as commander of the 8th Army Ranger Company during the Korean War, when he led his new unit to capture a frozen hilltop near the Chinese border and battled multiple counterattacks by a much larger enemy force.

Retired Col. Roger Donlon, the first person in the Vietnam War and the first Green Beret to receive the Medal of Honor, is the subject of the latest graphic novel in the Association of the U.S. Army’s series on recipients of the nation’s highest valor award.

Medal of Honor: Roger Donlon tells of how then-Capt. Donlon disregarded multiple wounds and successfully led his 12-man Green Beret team as they held off an attack by a reinforced battalion of Viet Cong fighters in July 1964.

A retired four-star general whose career spanned from Vietnam to the White House is sharing the secrets behind his success in leading soldiers, allies and enemies alike in his soon-to-be-published book.

“There are 36 years of experience in this book,” retired Gen. George Joulwan, author of Watchman at the Gates: A Soldier’s Journey From Berlin to Bosnia, said April 20 during the Association of the U.S. Army’s Thought Leaders webinar.

Retired Gen. George Joulwan, whose Army career spanned 36 years and gave him a front-row seat to history, will speak April 20 during a webinar hosted by the Association of the U.S. Army.

Speaking as part of AUSA’s Thought Leaders series, Joulwan will discuss his new book, Watchman at the Gates: A Soldier’s Journey from Berlin to Bosnia.

In a virtual discussion hosted by the Association of the U.S. Army, Vietnam veterans talked about setting the record straight on pivotal wartime operations by sharing thoroughly researched eyewitness accounts from the ground and air. 

Based on more than 10 years of research, Bait: The Battle of Kham Duc highlights the three-day attack on Kham Duc, a remote Army Special Forces camp, in May 1968. During the battle, more than 1,500 people were evacuated and 12 aircraft were shot down as two regiments of the 2nd North Vietnamese Army Division attacked. 

Books about the Vietnam War and the soldiers who fought in it will be the focus of an upcoming edition of the Association of the U.S. Army’s Thought Leaders webinar series.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Eastern Nov. 12. The event is free, but registration is required here.

The Association of the U.S. Army will host author Don Snedeker July 24 for its Thought Leaders webinar series.

Snedeker will discuss his book The Blackhorse in Vietnam: The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Vietnam and Cambodia, 1966-1972. The program begins at 10 a.m. Eastern.

The Association of the U.S. Army has released its second graphic novel as part of a series highlighting Medal of Honor recipients.

Medal of Honor: Roy Benavidez features the story of Special Forces Staff Sgt. Roy Benavidez, a Green Beret legend and Vietnam War veteran.

“It’s a very powerful story and one that people are going to enjoy reading,” said Joseph Craig, director of AUSA’s Book Program.

Vietnam veterans and their families will be honored during a weeklong Veterans Day celebration in Washington, D.C., hosted by the National Archives and the National Archives Foundation.

As part of the celebration, former Secretary of Defense, former U.S. Sen. and decorated Vietnam veteran Chuck Hagel will speak at the National Archives in the McGowan Theater on Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. Visitors to the area will be encouraged to explore the Remembering Vietnam exhibition at the National Archives Museum before the exhibit closes in January.
