Paper: Speed, Interoperability Keys to Future Fight

The Army’s ability to quickly share and manage data with and alongside the joint force will be critical to success on the future battlefield, according to a new paper published by the Association of the U.S. Army.

“As the U.S. restructures its military for great-power competition, battlefield effectiveness will be dependent upon the U.S. military’s ability to outperform the decision-making cycle of its near-peer competitors,” Lt. Col. Brittany Lloyd and 2nd Lt. Jeremiah Rozman write in “Achieving Decision Dominance through Convergence: The U.S. Army and JADC2.”

Brown Encourages Cooperation on Multidomain Ops

Multidomain operations, the evolving future warfighting concept that is rapidly moving to doctrine, will work far better for the U.S. with the support of allies and partners than if the U.S. goes it alone, retired Gen. Robert Brown said June 2.

“Multidomain is the key to success in the future,” he said. “It must be done together. If not done right, we won’t succeed.”

British Army Modernizes, Transforms for the Future

The British army is embarking on a massive modernization and transformation effort, similar to that of the U.S. Army, as it works to build a more agile, lethal and expeditionary force.

Driven by the recently published U.K. Integrated Security and Defence Review, the effort closely aligns with the U.S. Army’s own work to transform after decades of counterinsurgency operations and prepare for a contested, multidomain battlefield.

Led by Army Futures Command and announced in 2020, Project Convergence is a series of demonstrations and experiments that Gen. Mike Murray, commander of Futures Command, has called the Army’s “campaign of learning.”

The first event took place last fall at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona.

Headquartered at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, the 5th SFAB is aligned with the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command under the Army’s planned alignment of its six SFABs with combatant commands based on their geographic locations.
