William Nance commissioned as an Armor officer in 2002 from the United States Military Academy (USMA) and went on to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom I. He earned a MA in Military History from the University of North Texas in 2011, and then taught history at USMA from 2011 to 2014. He earned his PhD in Military History in 2014 from the University of North Texas, writing on American mechanized cavalry in World War II. Following his time at USMA, he served as a brigade plans officer, squadron operations officer and squadron executive officer. After a year advising the Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Brigade of the Saudi Arabian National Guard, he joined the Department of Military History at the Command and General Staff College in 2018. He retired from the Army in 2022, and is now a civilian Associate Professor of History at the Command and General Staff College and the author of multiple books on military history.
