Todd McCaffrey is a retired U.S. Army Major General with over 34 years of service culminating as the Chief of Staff, U.S. Africa Command. After his military retirement Todd joined the University of South Carolina as the Senior Director of Strategic Partnership for Government and Military Programs where he assisted the university integrate and expand its portfolio of defense and other national security related efforts. 

Furthering his continued commitment to defense, security, and other community related challenges, Todd established McCaffrey Consulting LLC where he supports clients across defense related industries, government, and academia. In addition to his consulting work, he serves as a board member for several non-profits including the Big Red Barn Retreat in Columbia, South Carolina which provides programs to help military veterans and first responders heal and achieve growth from the traumas of their profession. He is also an Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Leadership Fellow, supporting AUSA’s mission to educate, inspire, and connect leader development programs across the Army and its supporters.      

During his military career Todd commanded units at all echelons through division level and led both an infantry battalion and Stryker Brigade Combat Team in combat. As a division commander he gained a lasting respect for the service and sacrifice of our nation’s citizen-Soldiers commanding a training support division.  His other assignments include service as chief of staff to two 4-Star level commanders and as the Deputy Commander at U.S. Army Pacific where he supervised Army operations across the Pacific.   

MG(R) McCaffrey is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and holds master’s degrees in economics from the Colorado School of Mines and in national security studies from the US Army War College. He is a three-time recipient of the Army’s Distinguished Service Medal and has been awarded the Bronze Star multiple times for meritorious service in combat. He and his wife reside in Columbia, South Carolina and are the proud parents to three adult children.
