Major General Antonio (Andy) Munera retired from the Army after thirty-three years of dedicated service to the Nation. His last assignment was as the Commander of U.S. Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, with the responsibility to select, educate, train and commission college students to be officers and leaders of character in the Total Army and to partner with high schools to conduct JROTC programs to develop citizens of character for a lifetime of commitment and service to the Nation.

MG Munera graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania as a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and master’s degrees in military arts and science, and strategic studies. He is married to his college sweetheart Tacy, they have two children, a daughter-in-law and two grandkids.

MG Munera’s strengths are in creating positive organization cultures, developing leaders, curriculum development, building trust, empowering direct reports, crisis management, and encouraging prudent risk to allow his organizations to innovate, learn, grow and adapt to meet rapidly changing requirements. He possesses extensive experience in countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) response and readiness requirements.  

In his 33 years of service to our Nation, MG Munera served in a variety of command and staff positions. His previous assignment highlights include: Platoon Leader, Executive Officer and CBRN Officer in the 101st Airborne Division; Parachute Infantry Company Commander in the 82nd Airborne Division; Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer in the U.S. Army Technical Escort Unit (CBRNE); Chief of Plans for the 20th CBRNE Command; Branch Chief on the Joint Staff and Senior Military Advisor in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD); Commander of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant; Commander of the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB), 1st Infantry Division; Security Sector Reform Chief as part of the Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq.  As a General Officer, he served as the 30th Chief of Chemical and Commandant of the U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear School, the Deputy Commanding General for the U.S. Army Cadet Command, and the Commanding General of the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command.

MG Munera deployed in 1999 as part of Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo as a Company Commander in the 82nd Airborne Division. In 2003, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he served as the Plans Officer for the 75th WMD (spell out) Exploitation Task Force; and in Iraq in 2015, he served as part of Operation Inherent Resolve advising the Iraqi government on security sector reform.

MG Munera retired to Parkton, Maryland to enjoy time with his family and grandchildren.
