Maj. Gen. Thomas A. Bussiere is the Commander, Eighth Air Force (Air Forces Strategic), Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, and Joint Functional Component Commander for Global Strike, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Nebraska. "The Mighty Eighth" serves as the air component headquarters to USSTRATCOM for strategic deterrence, global strike, and operates USSTRATCOM's Joint Air Operations Center. The Joint Functional Component Command for Global Strike plans and executes strategic deterrence and global strike operations for USSTRATCOM. General Bussiere also commands Task Force 204, which oversees the Air Force nuclear bomber and reconnaissance activities in support of USSTRATCOM.
General Bussiere is a 1985 distinguished graduate of Reserve Officer Training Corps from Norwich University. He has held a variety of flying, staff and command assignments including Commander, 509th Bomb Wing; Inspector General, Headquarters, Air Force Global Strike Command; Advanced Programs Division, Headquarters, Air Combat Command; and Duty as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Multi-National Force-Iraq, Camp Victory, Baghdad Iraq. He commanded the 325th Bomb Squadron, 13th Bomb Squadron and 509th Operations Group at Whiteman AFB, Missouri. General Bussiere is a graduate of the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies and the U.S. Army War College Advanced Strategic Arts Program. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Deputy Director, for Nuclear, HomelandDefense, and Current Operations, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
General Bussiere is a command pilot with more than 3,300 hours in the T-38, F-15C, B-1B and B-2A. He led F-15C combat missions during operations Southern Watch and Vigilant Warrior and B-2 combat missions during operations Allied Force and Iraqi Freedom.
