John R. Groves

Major General John R. (Russ) Groves served as Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky for almost six years. In August 2001, he returned to teaching and administration at the University of Kentucky. General Groves has over 37 years of active and reserve military service, beginning with enlisted service. He has commanded at every level in the Kentucky Army Guard. He holds a PhD, a law degree, a master of international studies and a bachelor of architecture. He has written for Parameters, Military Review, Joint Forces Quarterly and the Strategic Studies Institute of the Army War College, and has lectured and taught at the Army War College. While Kentucky’s Adjutant General he served a three-year term on the Reserve Forces Policy Board.
