John Amble is editorial director of the Modern War Institute at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and co-director of its Urban Warfare Project, an initiative to study the character of war in cities. He is a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, assigned to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command’s Mad Scientist program. He deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
