Gen. Dennis L. Via

Gen. Dennis L. Via became the 18th commanding general of U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) in August 2012. Before that, he served as the AMC deputy commanding general, and he deployed to Kuwait to oversee the retrograde of equipment and materiel out of Iraq at the conclusion of Operation New Dawn. He previously served as director for Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems, J-6, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Via has served in numerous command positions, including commanding general, Communications-Electronics Command and Fort Monmouth, N.J.; 5th Signal Command, Mannheim, Germany; Third Signal Brigade, III Armored Corps, Fort Hood, Texas; and 82nd Signal Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. Via was commissioned in 1980 after graduating from Virginia State University and later earned a master’s degree from Boston University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.
