CW5 Steven E. Kilgore

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Steven E. Kilgore is assigned as the Command Chief Warrant Officer to the Combined Arms Center.   He has held this position since July 2019. 

Steve is originally from Gary, Indiana and enlisted in the Army in 1987.  He was accepted for the Warrant Officer Flight Training program, graduating as an AH-1F Cobra pilot and appointed a Warrant Officer 1 in August 1989. His military education includes the AH-1F, AH-64A, AH-64D, and AH-64E Instructor Pilot Courses, the Instrument Flight Examiner Course, the Aviation Master Gunner Course, the UH-72A Qualification Course, the Joint Firepower Controller’s Course, the USMC Forward Air Controller – Airborne course, the Norwegian Air Force Winter Survival School, the International Special Operations Training Center Sniper Course, and the Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course.  He earned a Master’s Degree 1999. 

Steve has served in numerous Cavalry and Attack Aviation assignments. He has served as a pilot-incommand with the 3rd Battalion (Attack), 4th Aviation Regiment, as Squadron adjutant for the 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, as a platoon leader and instructor pilot in the 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, as a Troop instructor pilot in the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry and 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiments, as a platoon leader and Company instructor pilot in the 1st Battalion (Attack), 25th Aviation Regiment, as a Troop instructor pilot with 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, Brigade Master Gunner for the 21st Cavalry Brigade, and as the Command Chief Warrant Officer for the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade.

During his 35 months deployed in combat operations, Steve has performed the duties of instructor pilot with the 1st Battalion (Attack), 227th Aviation Regiment, 2003, Brigade Tactical Operations Officer for the 4th (Aviation) Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, 2004-2005, and Brigade Master Gunner for the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, 2006-2007.  He also deployed to assist both 82nd Combat Aviation and 28th Combat Aviation Brigades in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2009.  

His Senior Staff duties include the Aviation Branch Master Gunner, Chief of Aviation Warrant Officer Assignments, HRC, Theater Aviation Standardization Officer for Army Europe, and as the US Army’s Warrant Officer Leader Development Officer assigned to the Headquarters, Department of the Army. 

Steve’s military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, 2 Air Medals for Valor, the Air Medal with Numeral 6, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Army Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Navy Unit Citation, the Combat Action Badge, the Army Master Army Aviator Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. 

His hobbies include hiking, rugby, the study of military history and competitive rifle marksmanship. 

Steve is married to Amie (Fielder) Kilgore and they have 1 daughter, Katie, who is 22 years old and a senior at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
