An upcoming webinar from the Association of the U.S. Army will focus on Army efforts to counter the growing threat of unmanned aerial systems.

Maj. Gen. Sean Gainey, director of the Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office and director of fires in the office of the deputy Army chief of staff for operations, will speak at noon Eastern Aug. 23.

The event is free, but registration is required here.

During the webinar, Gainey will talk about Army and DoD efforts to protect personnel, materiel and missions amid the growing threats and hazards associated with the rapid increase in small-UAS technology. He also will discuss the Army’s designation as the executive agent for counter-small-UAS and the work being done to develop integrated plans, technology, training concepts and doctrine to meet this emerging threat.

Gainey, who graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1990 and was commissioned in the air defense artillery, has served in units across the U.S. and Europe. He has deployed to Bahrain in support of Operation Southern Watch, Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and southwest Asia for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Before this assignment, he commanded the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command in Hawaii and served on the Joint Staff as deputy director for force protection, J-8.
