Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Grinston and a handful of squad leaders will participate in an Aug. 31 Association of the U.S. Army webinar on racial issues and diversity in the force.

The session, part of The AUSA Noon Report series, will be the third installment in an ongoing AUSA-hosted discussion on race.

The series began June 17 with a presentation by Army Undersecretary James McPherson and Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Joseph Martin. The second part, on June 26, featured four prominent retired leaders, Gens. Dennis Via and Vincent Brooks, Lt. Gen. Nadja West and Command Sgt. Maj. James Sims.

In recent weeks, the Army has stepped up efforts to improve diversity and equality across the force. A new initiative to tackle those issues, called Project Inclusion, was unveiled on June 25.

“We have to make sure, as leaders, that every single soldier in our Army is treated with dignity and respect, and every single soldier is taken care of,” Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville said during a virtual town hall on July 22.

Senior leaders also are calling on commanders and soldiers across the Army to have needed conversations about race and diversity. “We are directing you to do it,” McConville said. “We’re going to be checking to make sure this has been done at every single level.”

The event featuring Grinston and the squad leaders begins at noon Eastern. The webinar is free, but registration is required.
