Podcasts Highlight Army in Korea, Soldier Performance
The Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast is kicking off the new year with episodes featuring the top U.S. commander in South Korea and the director of player health and performance for the Detroit Lions.
First up, on Jan. 14, is an episode featuring Gen. Xavier Brunson, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command.
With its proximity to China, Russia and North Korea, U.S. Forces Korea is an increasingly important command. Leading this force is Brunson, who brings 35 years of Army experience to the table as well as a vast family history in leadership.
During the episode, Brunson discusses the latest developments in the region, how the Army has truly been a family affair for three generations of his family, and how to win an argument when your spouse has been an Army judge.
Next up is a podcast featuring Brett Fischer, who has been the Detroit Lions’ director of player health and performance since 2023. In his role, Fischer oversees all aspects of the team’s medical operation and helps develop comprehensive plans for the health and performance of the professional football team’s players.
Every day, soldiers perform physical tasks that rival those of some of the world’s top athletes. And who does the Army like to partner with to strengthen and innovate its own training methods? Professional sports teams.
During the episode, Fischer shares how his blue-collar upbringing led to his love of sports, what he and his staff do to better their athletes, and how his work with veterans inspires him.
The episode is available Jan. 28.
