The Army has launched a new website that gives soldiers a single access point to the service’s branch journals.

Called Line of Departure, the website is designed to be a user-friendly site that provides soldiers with content in a web-first, mobile-friendly format, said Col. Todd Schmidt, director of Army University Press. Users will be able to download audio files and access several military podcasts and resources. There also is a search engine that’s optimized to elevate the importance of content for consumers, Schmidt said.

“Our mission is to provide readers with a singular access point to engage with the wealth of knowledge and insights published across all Army branch journals at any time,” he said.

Part of the Harding Project, an Army chief of staff initiative to stimulate professional writing across the force, Line of Departure offers comprehensive access by aggregating content from the Army’s branch journals and bringing together diverse perspectives, cutting-edge research and insightful discussions in one convenient location.

All articles available on Line of Departure are PDF/UA compliant, so they meet universal accessibility standards. The site also offers mobile-optimized HTML content and audio versions.

The goal of Line of Departure is to offer “military professionals, scholars and enthusiasts alike access to the latest developments in military thought in an intuitive, inclusive and high-quality platform that meets the needs of every reader,” Schmidt said.
