Hear From 2 Incredible Soldiers, Officers

In February, the Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast will highlight the incredible stories of a colonel who’s using data to fight the enemy and a veteran who overcame a tough transition to civilian life and now helps others find their way.
First up, in an episode titled “Using Data to Fight Bad Guys,” the podcast will feature Col. Julie Coxen from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. The daughter of Korean immigrants, Coxen grew up understanding the importance of service to her country. Her experience in ROTC led to a successful Army career in special operations and a doctorate focused on using data to combat sex trafficking.
During the podcast, Coxen, who currently inspires the next generation of systems engineers at West Point, will talk about how data and system design drive everything in the world, how she lights a spark in her students and how close she came to becoming an astronaut at NASA.
The episode is available Feb. 12.
On Feb. 26, in “Soldier, Ranger, Survivor,” retired Lt. Col. J.C. Glick talks about his struggle to transition from his deployments and then to civilian life after a highly decorated 20-year Army career. Things got so desperate that he tried four times to take his own life, but Glick found the help he needed and is now a published author and consultant to managers and athletes. He also is CEO of The COMMIT Foundation, which helps veterans transition to their post-military careers.
During the podcast, Glick will share the lessons he learned during his multiple deployments, what advice and perspective helped him overcome his transition to civilian life, and how he feels about a Navy Seal joining his family.
