During the Coffee Series, Gainey, who has led Army Space and Missile Defense Command and Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense since January, will discuss how air defense artillery units are evolving and what can be done to ease their high operations tempo.
He also will talk about Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s role in the Army’s Space Vision Supporting Multidomain Operations and the command’s role in defending the United States.
A 1990 graduate of Georgia Southern University, Gainey leads 2,600 military and civilian professionals in their no-fail mission of providing the Army and joint force with trained and equipped space and global ballistic missile defense forces, as well as space, missile defense and high-altitude capabilities, according to his Army biography.
Before taking command, Gainey was director of the Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office and fires director in the office of the deputy Army chief of staff for operations, plans and training, G-3/5/7.
He has served multiple assignments in Europe and has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
As he assumed command in January, Gainey said he was honored to be part of the “amazing” team at Army Space and Missile Defense Command.
“Together, we will realize the Army’s space vision and ensure we maintain a modernized missile defense force while ensuring the health of our forces remains our priority,” he said. “We continue to ask a lot of our Army space and missile defense forces. I am truly amazed at how often they respond in every occasion.”
