AUSA’s Podcast Features Inspirational Soldiers
A former soldier who overcame severe combat wounds and a trailblazing officer will be featured in October as part of the Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast.
First up is a podcast featuring J.R. Martinez, veteran, actor and host of the “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage” podcast.
In April 2003, then-Cpl. Martinez’s Humvee ran over a roadside bomb in Iraq. He was trapped in the burning vehicle for over five minutes, and when he got out, he had burns on 34% of his body. Three years in the hospital and 34 surgeries later, Martinez was better physically, but his most important accomplishment during that time was finding hope.
Since then, Martinez has forged ahead with an incredible life. He became a successful actor, “Dancing with the Stars” champion, best-selling author and motivational speaker.
During the podcast, Martinez shares how he found purpose during his recovery, discusses highlights of his vast career and talks about his new podcast, “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” which highlights the stories of Medal of Honor recipients through the years.
The episode is available Oct. 8.
Next up, on Oct. 22, is a podcast featuring Col. Lisa Jaster.
In 2015, then-Maj. Jaster became one of the first women to graduate from Ranger School. It would be one of many accomplishments in a distinguished life of service that includes her time at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, an award-winning fitness career and her stint as an author.
During the podcast, Jaster discusses highlights of her service in the Army, shares valuable fitness tips and reveals a Ranger School distinction she holds in conjunction with her late father.
