An upcoming Association of the U.S. Army webinar will focus on how the Military Health System is working to improve care for service members, families and veterans.

The event, part of AUSA’s Noon Report, will feature Dr. Lester Martinez-Lopez, assistant defense secretary for health affairs. The online event begins at noon Eastern on July 30. It is free, but registration is required here.

During the webinar, Martinez-Lopez will talk about what the Military Health System is doing to improve medical readiness and access to care in military hospitals and clinics. He also will discuss efforts to attract beneficiaries to military hospitals and clinics and provide opportunities to sustain clinical readiness for medical forces.

A family medicine physician, Martinez-Lopez previously was the principal adviser to the defense secretary and undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness for all DoD health and force health protection policies, programs and activities.

He retired from the Army as a major general and was the first Latino to head the Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, where he directed the Army’s worldwide medical research, acquisition and logistics program. Martinez-Lopez also commanded the Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine and three military hospitals.
