AUSA Podcast Features Families, Football and WWII Hero
To start the new year, the Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast in January will highlight Army families, a 99-year-old Army veteran’s incredible story and an exclusive interview with West Point football head coach Jeff Monken.
First up, Dee Geise, director of the Army’s prevention, resilience and readiness directorate, will talk about how Soldier and Family Readiness Groups continue to connect and provide key support to Army families. Geise will highlight how these groups continue to improve the lives of Army spouses and how to find a proper work-life balance.
The episode was released Jan. 1.
Next up is a podcast featuring Jack Moran, who enlisted as a 17-year-old in 1944 to help fight the Nazis. Within his first 15 seconds in combat, Moran witnessed seven fellow soldiers die.
Moran would go on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, chase Nazis through Germany and help liberate the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.
Now 99, Moran will share his World War II experiences and talk about how he continues to share his story with young people.
The episode will be available Jan. 15.
Finally, on Jan. 29, the podcast will feature Jeff Monken, head coach of the Army Black Knights football team. Led by Monken, who’s in his 11th season, the West Point football team is coming off one of its best seasons in program history with a 12-2 record and a 27-6 Independence Bowl victory on Dec. 28 over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
Named the 37th head coach in program history in December 2013, Monken brought stability and strategy to the squad and allowed it to compete with some of the top, best-funded football programs in the country over the past decade.
During the podcast, Monken will share his own football history, how he’s able to get the most of out of his players and how much pressure he actually feels during the annual Army-Navy game.
