AUSA Podcast Features Army Doctor, Gold Star Moms
An Army doctor who dedicated his life to serving others and Gold Star moms who tirelessly keep their loved ones’ legacies alive are featured in September as part of the Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast.
First up, on Sept. 11, is a podcast featuring Dr. Lester Martinez-Lopez, a retired major general who is now assistant defense secretary for health affairs.
As a young boy growing up in Puerto Rico, two of Martinez-Lopez’s relatives inspired him to enter the field of medicine, and an Army program led him to a more than 45-year career of saving lives, overseeing global medical innovation and preventing outbreaks.
During the podcast, Martinez-Lopez will share his story, the obstacles he overcame, his most influential missions and his favorite dessert.
The next podcast features Patti Elliott, president of American Gold Star Mothers, and new member Nichole Jackson Chilton.
Formed almost 100 years ago by a mother grieving the loss of her son in battle who found solace in other mothers coping with similar losses, American Gold Star Mothers continues to aid and comfort grieving moms and families—while also inspiring members to continue a life of service.
During the podcast, Elliott and Jackson Chilton will discuss what the organization is doing, share their sons’ stories and talk about how one of them influenced the recent renaming of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Fort Liberty.
The podcast will be released Sept. 25.
