The AUSA Chapter President’s Workshop is conducted annually in the Washington DC area to prepare new chapter presidents to assume the duties and responsibilities of chapter leadership. Training is conducted entirely in Arlington, Virginia. Attendees are trained in the use of the Chapter Leader Portal website, membership databases, and chapter financial management. Attendees will also be briefed on AUSA programs, legislative affairs, the AUSA education strategy, marketing, fund-raising, National and Chapter communications, and on special categories of membership-Community Partner, Retired Soldiers, Reserve Components, and Army Civilians. Attendees stay at the Hyatt Place, next door to the AUSA National Headquarters. Hotel and airline reservations are made by AUSA National.

Travel to Arlington, VA. The best airport is Reagan National (DCA). Dulles International (IAD) is the second choice but is farther away. Plan to arrive at the destination airport BEFORE 4:00 PM to allow for travel to the hotel. You may travel into AUSA on 30 July and not incur any non-reimbursable personal expenses for the hotel, or meals, if your travel cannot allow you to travel on the 31st and arrive before 4:00 PM. The registration table will open at the hotel lobby from 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM. You will be required to provide a credit card to cover any incidental expenses at check-in to the hotel. A welcome mixer/reception and dinner will be held beginning at 6:30 PM. GEN Ham will address the group at this event. The plan is to have a group photo taken during this event.

A light breakfast buffet will be served at the Hyatt Place starting at 6:30 AM. Training sessions will run from about 7:45 AM until 5:00 PM. Friday is an Open Night. AUSA will provide you a packet with information on nearby restaurants and other points of interest for your personal choice and enjoyment. A light breakfast will be served at the Hyatt Place starting at 6:30 AM. Training will resume at 7:45 and conclude about 12:00 noon. Only for very special circumstances will airline reservations be made prior to the end of training (2:00 PM) on Sunday, 4 August 2019. You may depart AUSA on 5 August and not incur any non-reimbursable personal expenses for the hotel, or meals, if your travel cannot allow you to depart on the 4th after 2:00 PM and make it home that day.
Business casual is the dress code for the training sessions. As meeting room temperatures may vary, a light sweater, jacket or sports coat is recommended. The Saturday evening Reception and Dinner, if held, is also business casual.
You will be provided a name badge. Please wear your badge to all activities.
You will receive an AUSA voucher in your Welcome Packet for you to file upon the completion of your travel. Examples of reimbursable costs include airport parking, luggage handling, taxi cab from the airport to hotel, your Friday night dinner and meals in transit. AUSA will pay for hotel parking for those driving their POVs. The cost of a rental car, if desired for the weekend, is not reimbursable. Be sure to retain ALL receipts for claimed expenses. If unable to complete your travel voucher on the last day of training, you may either mail your travel voucher to AUSA Regional Activities, 2425 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201, ATTN: Mark Wolf; email to [email protected].
Please note that if driving, reimbursement is based on/about $0.58 per mile, tolls, parking, meals and lodging not to exceed the total cost of airline travel with a minimum 21-day advance reservation.
To obtain the best prices on airline tickets, AUSA purchases non-refundable tickets. Accordingly, once an airline ticket has been purchased by AUSA the cost of the ticket will be chapter responsibility in case of non-attendance.
Individuals attending AUSA New President’s Training Workshop 2019 will stay at the Hyatt Place, located at 2401 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Virginia 22201. The Hyatt Place is located next door to AUSA National Headquarters. AUSA will make your hotel reservation. You will be required to provide a credit card to cover any incidental expenses at check-in to the hotel.
AUSA pays for your room, tax, and meals from Wednesday evening through Sunday lunch. You only will be reimbursed in an amount not to exceed $35.00 for your dinner on your own Friday and Saturday (and possibly Sunday) evenings (retain receipts for dinner to file with travel voucher). All other room charges are at your own expense. These room charges must be paid at checkout.

- Serving Chapter Presidents who have not attended training (CONUS)
- Newly elected Chapter Presidents (OCONUS)
Hotel and Airline Reservations:
All hotel reservations and airline reservations for you are handled by AUSA National staff based upon the information you submit on the electronic registration form. If a spouse or guest accompanies you, AUSA National will give you the name of the travel agency used by AUSA for you to coordinate your spouse or guest's travel arrangements. You are responsible for the cost of the ticket for your Spouse/Guest.
NOTE: Once the airline ticket is booked by AUSA, attendees are responsible for the cost of any penalties incurred for changes to their itinerary. Cost of the airline ticket will be chapter responsibility in event of non-attendance.
There is no specific program for your spouse. However, they are invited to attend the Wednesday evening event and the Saturday evening Reception and Dinner; if held.
Spouse travel arrangements will NOT be paid by AUSA National (see above under Hotel and Airline Reservations). AUSA National makes travel arrangements for you only; our travel agent will make reservations for your spouse/guest; the cost of spouse/guest ticket is your responsibility.
