The Association of the United States Army’s professional education program is designed to identify, discuss and influence the outcome of significant issues that affect the U.S. Army and national defense. AUSA accomplishes this goal through the sponsorship of writing programs, for which quality manuscripts are needed.

We would like to invite you—past and present servicemembers, Army civilians, friends of the Army and others with an interest in and knowledge of national defense—to submit a manuscript to one or more of our writing programs. Membership in AUSA, while always encouraged, is not a requirement for participation.

Land Warfare Papers

This series is an outlet for research on defense and national security issues that will serve to inform and influence opinions on defense matters. Participation is not limited to AUSA members or military servicemembers.

• Papers must be original and previously unpublished (in print or online). 
• Submissions should be no more than 10,000 words. 
• Accompanying graphics must be reproducible in black and white.  
• A one-page synopsis of the paper and a brief biography of the author must accompany the manuscript.  
• Manuscripts—in MS Word format—may be submitted at any time. 
• Papers are reviewed by an editorial board for overall quality, scholarship and the significance of the subject matter.  
• Papers are published in print and online (unless otherwise noted).

Landpower Essays

This series is an outlet for original, opinion-style essays on timely defense topics that will stimulate professional discussion and further public understanding of the role of the Army in national security. While the Land Warfare papers are heavily focused on research and are more academic in tone, the Landpower Essays encourage a more conversational and reflective approach. Essays will be published on ausa.org and promoted to the Association’s membership.

• Papers must be original and previously unpublished (in print or online).
• Submissions should be no more than approximately 5,000 words.
• A one-page synopsis of the paper and a brief biography of the author must accompany the manuscript.
• Manuscripts—in MS Word format—may be submitted at any time.
• Papers are reviewed by an editorial board for overall quality and for the significance of the subject matter.
• Papers are published online.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Continuous learning points may be awarded when participating at professional development seminars, symposia, or conferences hosted by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).

AUSA’s professional development programs include the Thought Leader series, Hot Topics, and Contemporary Military Forums. Attending these programs may be worth up to .5 points per hour; speaking or presenting may be worth 2 points per hour. Additionally, manuscripts published through AUSA’s Writing Program may be worth 10 to 40 points.

Programming scope and objectives will be provided upon request. Please follow DoD AT&LWF guidelines when assigning points.
