The FLW Mid-Mo Chapter sponsored 41 Service Members and spouses on a visit to the Missouri State Capitol, providing a unique opportunity to engage directly with state leadership and learn more about the legislative process.
Service Members received a behind-the-scenes tour of the Capitol and met with Pulaski County House Delegates Bill Hardwick and Don Mayhew. Discussions focused on legislation currently submitted to the House that impacts Soldiers, Veterans, and their families across the state of Missouri.
During the gaveling-in of the 2026 Missouri House of Representatives, Fort Leonard Wood Soldiers, Airmen, and their spouses were formally recognized by all 163 members of the House, an unforgettable moment for those in attendance.
While touring the Capitol, Service Members had the opportunity to meet Senator Sandy Crawford during an impromptu meet-and-greet in the halls. Senator Crawford serves on the Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission, making the interaction especially meaningful.
The tour also included a climb to the top of the Capitol Dome—above and outside the dome itself. Fun fact: there are 335 steps to the top, and once you commit, there’s no turning back… something the group fully realized around step 200.
Additionally, Service Members were given a tour of the Missouri Supreme Court. While in the courtroom, Supreme Court Justice Mary Russell entered unexpectedly and spent the next 30 minutes in an up-close, personal conversation with the group—an extraordinary and memorable experience.
During the opening session, two House members were recognized for their service during the Vietnam War. With these recognitions, the FLW Mid-Missouri Chapter has now honored 1,417 Vietnam-era Veterans
