Vietnam-Era Veterans Honored in Pinning Ceremony
AUSA Fort Leonard Wood Mid-Missouri hosted it's third Vietnam-Era Pinning Ceremony in Rolla with Phelps for the Fort and the Rolla Chamber of Commerce on June 27, 2023 at Community Partner location, Columbia College. The ceremony honored 185 Vietnam Veterans and had approximately 400 community members in attendance.
The ceremony included a flag raised at the front of the building by the Rolla Fire Department and fire and law enforcement officials greeting attendees. Fort Leonard Wood and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club provided color guard for the event. Brittany Raines began the ceremony with honoring POW/MIA in a tribute. Freddie Brock provided an explanation of the program and invited Brennon Willard, Chapter President to speak. In addition, City Councilman and Phelps for the Fort President, Kevin Greven, was the keynote speaker. Greven discussed the importance of honoring this generation and emphasized how they paved the way for future generations to volunteer to serve.
Each Veteran being honored, along with Gold Star surviving spouses, were called by name individually to receive a Vietnam commemorative pin, a challenge coin from Phelps for the Fort, and a certificate.
Community Partner, United Veteran Benefits Agency, provided refreshments following the event.
