The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) proudly announces its official Army Birthday Writing & Artwork Contest in celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday.
Purpose and Impact
This contest is a meaningful way to celebrate the Army’s 250th Birthday by connecting students and young adults to the Army’s legacy. Through creative storytelling and traditional artwork, participants honor the values of service, sacrifice, and leadership, while offering a personal lens into the Army’s continuing impact on their lives and communities.
Contest Theme and Submission Requirements
Participants are asked to submit a 150-word message along with a piece of traditional (non-digital) artwork that reflects their unique connection to the United States Army. Submissions must align with the official theme: “My Army, My Story”
Creative responses may explore topics such as service, sacrifice, leadership, patriotism, resilience, and the Army’s role in shaping both history and the future.
Accepted forms of traditional artwork include:
- Drawing (pencil, charcoal, ink)
- Painting (watercolor, oil, acrylic)
- Mixed media (collage, prints, etc.)
Note: Digital artwork will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Award and Recognition(One Per Group)
- $100 gift card;
- Featured on the AUSA website, social media, and publications;
- Included in a special Army Birthday Podcast episode, where selected winners will share their reflections and creative process.
- Recognized during the AUSA Annual Meeting, with 40k attendees.
Eligibility and Grouping
The contest is open to students from kindergarten through undergraduate level. Submissions will be evaluated within the following grade-level brackets to ensure fairness:
- Kindergarten–1st Grade
- 2nd–3rd Grade
- 4th–5th Grade
- 6th–8th Grade
- 9th–12th Grade
- Undergraduate Students
All participants must clearly include their current grade level when submitting their work.
Contest Timeline
This contest will open on April 22, 2025, and the submission period will close on August 8, 2025. Judging will follow, and winners will be officially announced by October 1, 2025.
