Wednesday, June 24, 2015

School’s out and it’s time to plan fun things for the summer. Here are four ideas to get you started:

1. Visit a local museum—free

Blue Star Museums offers free admission to active duty military members and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Click here for participating museums.

2. Explore the great outdoors

The National Parks Service offers a free America the Beautiful pass to military members and their dependents. This annual pass allows you access to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites for free. The pass also covers entrance and standard amenity fees for a driver and guest in one vehicle (or up to four adults at sites that charge per person).

3. Play at an amusement park

Waves of Honor offers free tickets for active duty military members and three dependents to SeaWorld, Aquatica by SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Sesame Place and Adventure Island. These amusement parks may not be local, but if you are traveling to the area, they can make for a great day of free fun.

4. Plan a staycation

You can’t leave the house every day, and if you just PCS’d you may be busy getting settled. A staycation at home may be perfect for your family. You can find s lots of fun ideas online like, how to turn your backyard into a water park or indoor activities for the days it’s too hot.
