Army Ten-Miler and GEICO officials recently announced runners from around the world attending the Army Ten-Miler’s Pre-Race GEICO Pasta Dinner are in for a special event and experience.Highlighting the dinner, attendees will meet the senior enlisted leadership of the United States Army.Sgt. Maj. of the Army Raymond Chandler; Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Burch, command sergeant major of the Army National Guard; and Command Sgt. Maj. Michael D. Schultz, command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Reserve, will speak Oct. 8 at the race’s dinner.The Army Ten-Miler – with over 30,000 runners registered – will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9, the day before the Association of the United States Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition – A Professional Development Forum, Oct. 10 – 12, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital.General registration opened on May 15 and sold out the same day at 8:50 p.m. Priority registration for U.S. service members sold out on May 9. The 30,000 cap is filled, and registration is closed. Entry Still PossibleThe race’s Online Transfer Program, that opened June 1, will be in effect until Aug. 19.The online transfer process is secure and easy to use.Sellers are responsible for finding buyers and coordinating payment terms. The actual transfer of registration is conducted online and a small administration fee is applied.All parties receive an e-mail confirming the transaction has been processed.Historically, over 2,200 runners enter the Army’s race through the Online Transfer Program.A Community Page section featuring "Buyer and Seller Transfer Boards" on the race’s Web site, www.armytenmiler.com, is available for registered runners and non-registered runners to connect.They can also connect on the Ten-Miler Facebook page.Race officials stressed that non-registered runners are more likely to obtain entry by leveraging their existing family, fellow workers and runners, and social networks. Other popular online bulletin boards and discussion group sites where runners might connect are MarathonGuide.com, Runners World Forums, Craigslist.org and Army Knowledge Online (AKO).The all-you-can-eat pasta dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Va.At the dinner, Chandler, Burch and Schultz will meet soldiers from the active Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard who will be competing for top honors and the prestigious Commander’s Cup. Packet pick up and EXPO locationPacket pick up for individuals and teams will be conducted again at the DC Armory, 2001 East Capitol Street, near RFK Stadium in Washington.The armory is located at the Stadium/Army Metro stop on the Blue and Orange lines.
