Over 35,000 runners will participate in 31st Army Ten-Miler

Sunday, March 1, 2015

The 31st Annual Army Ten-Miler, the third largest 10-mile race in the world, is set for Oct. 11 at the Pentagon in Washington.Produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, the annual Army Ten-Miler features a world-class race that attracts over 35,000 runners. The race is preceded by a two-day Health and Fitness Expo with over 85 exhibitors and 40,000-plus attendees.Acclaimed for its fast, scenic course – passing by many national landmarks and monuments in our nation’s Capital – the Army’s race is the only running event to start and finish at the Pentagon.Race officials also emphasized that all proceeds from the Army Ten-Miler go to soldier and soldier family Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs. The Association of the United States Army, now in its 64th year, has supported this premier Army athletic competition – known for its "Tradition of Excellence" – since its inaugural race in 1985.As in the past, the race will immediately precede the three-day Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting and Exposition at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center Oct. 12-14."The mission of the Army’s race is to produce a world-class race, promote the Army and to support fitness and morale," Jim Vandak, the race director, said.Adding, "We expect the 2015 race to continue this Tradition of Excellence that has made the Army Ten-Miler a great success."The Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va., will serve as the headquarters hotel again for this year.Located less than a mile from the Pentagon, the hotel is on the Metro Blue and Yellow Lines and one mile from Reagan National Airport. The hotel will offer a special room rate for runners and host the popular all-you-can-eat GEICO Pasta Dinner on Saturday Oct. 10.Since the Army Ten-Miler’s room block and Pasta Dinner always sell out, race officials encourage runners to make their reservations early. In addition to the 10-mile run, race day festivities include youth activities, music, Army displays, HOOAH tents, the GEICO Gecko, and much more. For more information on the Army’s race, visit www.armytenmiler.com.The Lead Sponsors for the 2015 race are the Association of the United States Army and KBR, an AUSA sustaining member.Other Army Ten-Miler sponsors include GEICO, PWC, DRS Technologies, AAFMAA, and Navy Federal Credit Union. The Army Ten-Miler offers a variety of sponsor packages for organizations to achieve their business objectives and to support soldiers and their families. For more information on Army Ten-Miler sponsorship opportunities contact Gia Bower (202) 685-1995, or eloise.m.bower2.naf@mail.mil.For additional information on this premier Army running event, visit www.armytenmiler.com
