Following an extensive national search, Dr. Rob Havers has been selected president of the George C. Marshall Foundation.Havers is the current executive director of The National Churchill Museum and vice president for the Churchill Institute at Westminster College, located in Fulton, Mo.Havers is expected to begin his new assignment at the foundation located at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), in Lexington, Va., in mid-May."We are extremely fortunate to have attracted Doctor Havers, whose impressive record as an executive director of a museum and library and his significant career as a military historian superbly match the skills and experience needed for his new role at the Marshall Foundation," John B. Adams Jr., chairman of the Marshall Foundation Board of Trustees, said."We were impressed by Doctor Havers’ success in building an international following for The Churchill Museum resulting in significant financial support from grant-making organizations and individual donors," he added.The Churchill Museum includes a museum, archives and a research library, all similar components to the structure of the Marshall Foundation.The Churchill Institute is responsible for connecting the Churchill legacy to Westminster College through its leadership development activities.Havers has been affiliated with the Churchill organizations and Westminster College since 2004.He has previously served as Fulbright-Robertson visiting professor of British history at Westminster College and served in an adjunct faculty role at the Department of War Studies at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, United Kingdom, and the Department of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science.An accomplished scholar, author and public speaker, Havers graduated from Queen Mary College, University of London, with a bachelor’s degree in history and politics; the London School of Economics and Political Science with a master’s degree in later modern British history; and Pembroke College of the University of Cambridge with a Ph.D.He is the author of several articles and books. His Ph.D. thesis, "Reassessing the Japanese POW Experience: The Changi POW Camp, 1942-45," was published as a book in 2003 and subsequently re-published in paperback in 2013.Havers and his wife, Alana Abbott, have two daughters, Alice and Olivia.The Association of the United States Army is a Marshall Foundation Benefactor in Perpetuity, a Corporate Partner for Leadership, and a long-time supporter of the annual U.S. Army Cadet Command and George C. Marshall Awards and Leadership Seminar for outstanding senior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadets that began in 1976.
