2019 Chapter Leader Development Training
Training spaces are limited to 25 participants. Attendance will be restricted to those serving as, or in line to be, chapter officers serving in membership and programs positions. Registration will open on 15 March and remain open until 15 April. This training is for CONUS based chapters; European Region and Pacific Region Chapter Leader Training is conducted in conjunction with their Region Meetings. One attendee per chapter is allowed. In the event over 25 requests are received an order of merit list will be created and used in the event of a vacancy occurs. Chapters will be notified NLT 1 May whether the individual can attend. The next training event will be in early 2020.
Training is conducted entirely at the AUSA National Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. Attendees are trained in the use of the Chapter Leader Portal website and membership databases. Attendees will also be briefed on AUSA programs, marketing, fund-raising, National and Chapter communications, and on special categories of membership-Community Members, Retiree, Reserve Components and Army Civilians. Attendees stay at the Hyatt Place Arlington/Courthouse Plaza located next to AUSA National Headquarters. Hotel and airline reservations are made by AUSA National.
Most costs for attendance are borne by AUSA National; exceptions include personal expenses such as hotel and meals beyond the course dates, in-room charges, and telephone. All hotel reservations and airline reservations for the attendee will be handled by AUSA National staff based upon the information submitted by the electronic online registration; with a requirement for the attendee to confirm the reservation is acceptable within 24 hours before it is purchased. Spouse travel arrangements will NOT be made by AUSA National but can be made in conjunction with scheduling the students travel through our travel agent. AUSA National will make travel arrangements for course attendees only. If a spouse or guest will accompany the attendee, AUSA National will provide the name of the travel agency to coordinate their travel.
NOTE: Once airline ticket is booked by AUSA, attendees are responsible for the cost of any penalties incurred for changes to their itinerary. Cost of ticket will be chapter responsibility in event of non-attendance.
Dress
Business casual (open collar and slacks for all events). As room temperatures may vary, a light sweater, jacket, or sport coat is recommended.
Badges
You will be provided a name badge. Please wear your badge to all activities.
Reimbursements
You will receive an AUSA travel/entertainment voucher in your welcome packet for you to file upon the completion of your travel. Examples of reimbursable costs include airport parking, luggage handling, taxi cab from the airport to hotel, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night dinner and meals in transit. AUSA will pay for hotel parking for those driving their POVs. The cost of a rental car, if desired, is NOT reimbursable. Be sure to retain receipts for any expenses $25.00 or more. Please note that if driving, reimbursement is based on $.58 per mile, tolls, parking, any additional meals and lodging NOT TO EXCEED the total cost of airline travel with a minimum 21-day advance reservation.
To obtain the best prices on airline tickets, AUSA purchases non-refundable tickets. Accordingly, once an airline ticket has been purchased by AUSA the cost of ticket will be chapter responsibility in case of non-attendance.
Highlight of Activities
Wednesday, 19 June
Travel to Arlington, VA. The best airport is Reagan National (DCA). Dulles International (IAD) is the second choice but is farther away. Plan to arrive at the destination airport BEFORE 4:00 PM to allow for travel to the hotel. You may travel into AUSA on 18 June and not incur any non-reimbursable personal expenses for the hotel, or meals, if your travel cannot allow you to travel on the 19th and arrive before 4:00 PM.
The registration table will open at the hotel from 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM. You will be required to provide a credit card to cover any incidental expenses at check-in to the hotel.
There will be a reception that evening in the AUSA Headquarters beginning at 6:30 PM. The class photo will be taken at the start of the reception.
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 20 - 22 June
Breakfast in the hotel restaurant will be available.
Training sessions will run from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM.
Attendees may walk through the concourse located on the first floor of the hotel which leads to the AUSA Headquarters building. AUSA will provide a packet with information on nearby restaurants and other points of interest for your personal choice and enjoyment. See note about reimbursement for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night dinner under Incidental Expenses.
Sunday, 23 June
A breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant will be available.
Training sessions will run from 7:45 AM - 12:00 PM.
Note: For those departing on Sunday, we recommend you either bring your luggage to AUSA National building or arrange to have your luggage stored with the hotel concierge. Only for very special circumstances will airline reservations be made prior to the end of training (12:00 noon) on Sunday.
** Do NOT plan on flight departure prior to 2:00 PM.
You may depart AUSA on 24 June and not incur any non-reimbursable personal expenses for the hotel, or meals, if your travel cannot allow you to depart on the 23rd after 2:00 PM and make it home that day.
Hotel Information
Individuals attending 2019 AUSA Chapter Leader Development Training will stay at the Hyatt Place Arlington/Courthouse Plaza, located at 2401 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, Virginia 22201. The Hyatt is located next to AUSA National Headquarters. AUSA makes your hotel reservation. You will be required to provide a credit card to cover any incidental expenses at check-in to the hotel.
Reservations
AUSA National will make all room reservations based from completion of electronic online registration for the training. AUSA National will provide a rooming list to the hotel. Confirmation numbers will be emailed to the attendee prior to the arrival.
Incidental Hotel Expenses
AUSA will pay for your room (including tax) and breakfast; from Thursday evening through Sunday morning breakfast; Wednesday and Sunday evening may be paid, if your travel requires these days. You will be reimbursed in an amount not to exceed $35 for dinner on your own Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. All other room charges are at your own expense. These room charges must be paid at checkout time. Receipts are required for any expense of $25 or more.

Spouses are welcomed, however, there is NO specific program for spouses. Spouse travel arrangements will NOT be purchased by AUSA National. AUSA National will make travel arrangements for course attendees only.
