Army Ten-Miler Registration Opens April 1 2008

Registration for the 24th Annual Army Ten-Miler opens Tuesday, April 1, on the race’s Web site www.armytenmiler.com.

Runners from around the world will register for this year's race that will be held at the Pentagon on Sunday, Oct. 5, the day before the opening of the Association of the United States Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition at the Washington Convention Center.

Again this year, the race’s cap will again be 26,000 runners.

Race Director Jim Vandak promises another ten-mile race that will reflect the run’s motto: “A Tradition of Excellence.”

The race starts at 8 a.m. The course will move runners through the nation's capital, passing national monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial, White House, Jefferson Memorial and the U.S. Capitol. It will end at the Pentagon.

The race traditionally “sells out,” according to Vandak.

"We expect to reach our 26,000 cap by mid-May, so I urge runners and teams to register early," he said.

Last year, the race sold out in a record 41 days.

The early entry fee is $47.

After June 30, the entry fee is $55.

“A runner is allowed to transfer his or her entry online to another person if he or she cannot run. There will be a small $20 fee for this service. Also, soldier teams can pre-pay for up to eight entries when creating a team. The deadline to register pre-paid team entries or transfer a race entry is Aug. 8,” Vandak said.

For additional race information and online registration, go to www.armytenmiler.com.

The Army Ten-Miler -- America's largest ten-mile race -- is produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington.

The race’s Lead Sponsors are the Association of the United States Army and KBR, an AUSA sustaining member company.
