New Bill Introduced to Improve Rehabilitation for Disabled Veterans and Focus on Quality of Life
05/01/2008

The Chairman of the Veteran Affair’s Committee, Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI) introduced legislation to improve the Department of Veteran Affair’s Independent Living program which serves severely disabled veterans who are unable to work. The legislation known as the “Training and Rehabilitation for Disabled Veterans Enhancement Act of 2008” (S.2864) would remove the cap on the number of enrolled veterans in the program making quality of life the official focus of the program. This bills stems from a February 5, 2008 hearing on vocational rehabilitation, along with Committee oversight, and responds to a December 2007 VA inspection that found delays in rehabilitation services under the current enrollment cap. For more information on the “Training and Rehabilitation for Disabled Veterans Enhancement Act of 2008” view the U. S.
