$1.9 Billion Construction Bill Introduced to Aid VA Hospitals
05/01/2008

U. S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI), Chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, introduced legislation, at the request of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, requesting $1.9 billion for repair and construction of countrywide VA hospitals. The bill known as a bill to authorize major medical facility projects and major medical facility leases for the Department of Veterans Affairs for fiscal year 2009, and for other purposes (S.2797) would focus on authorization of building a polytrauma center in San Antonio, TX and renovation of Palo Alto, CA current facility. These centers give comprehensive care to wounded veterans returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill also calls for a new VA hospital in Denver, CO and $60 million in leases for community-based outpatient clinics throughout 11 states and territories. More information is available regarding this bill through the U. S. Senate Committee on Veteran’s Affairs website: http://veterans.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?pageid=12&release_id=11622
