DoD Recommends Closing 15 Army Installations
The Defense Department’s base realignment and closure recommendations would close 15 Army posts, 17 lease sites, 176 Army Reserve Readiness Centers and allow governors to close 211 armories and move those units into 125 local Armed Forces Readiness Centers.

Panel Questions Top Officials on Closures
The nine-member Base Realignment and Closure Commission questioned top defense and Army officials in two hearings in mid-May on the possible damage to recruiting and retention – especially in the reserve components – that might be caused if the latest round of shutdowns and movements are approved.

The congressionally-created Overseas Basing Commission is recommending that the Defense Department slow its approach to moving more than 70,000 service members, their families and department civilians back from overseas locations to the United States by 2008.
