Spending bill includes benchmarks for Iraq
President George W. Bush signed the $120 billion emergency spending bill May 25 that will go largely to support military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, but does not contain language setting troop withdrawal deadlines.

Survey results identify mental health issues
“The level of combat is the main determinant of a soldier’s or marine’s mental health status,” the acting surgeon general of the Army said in reporting the findings of the Department of Defense’s fourth mental health survey of service members serving in Iraq.

Stress contributes to lapses in judgement by soldiers, marines
About 40 percent of the marines and 55 percent of the soldiers serving in combat units in Iraq told mental health surveyors that they would report a fellow marine or soldier for killing or injuring an innocent Iraqi.

New combat shirt will debut in field
The Army’s Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier, Fort Belvoir, Va., will soon provide an improved Army Combat Shirt (ACS) to soldiers deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan.
