Surgeon General Submits Request to Retire
The Army’s surgeon general submitted his request to retire March 11 to the acting secretary of the Army, Pete Geren. Maj. Gen., Gale Pollock, deputy surgeon general, assumed the duties.

The Army vice chief of staff announced leadership changes to the medical hold units at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, which he called an important first step in correcting administrative and bureaucratic challenges wounded soldiers face during recovery.

Lt. Gen. Julius W. Becton Jr., USA, Ret., soldier, combat commander, administrator, educator, public servant, government leader and role model will receive the 2007 George Catlett Marshall Medal – the highest award presented by the Association of the United States Army.

Huey Pilot Receives Medal of Honor
More than 40 years after one of the first major involvements of U.S. troops in Vietnam, Lt. Col. Bruce P. Crandall, USA, Ret., earned the Medal of Honor for piloting his unarmed UH-1 Huey into harm’s way to evacuate wounded soldiers during the Battle of Ia Drang.
