The state index pages are based on each casualty's Official Home of Record. The home of record may be the place the person entered military service or that person's residence at that time. The home of record is not always that person's birthplace, home town, or place of high school graduation.

ACAP
The Army Career and Alumni Program provides transition services and employment assistance training to separating and retiring Soldiers and their spouses.

Administration on Aging
The mission of AoA is to develop a comprehensive, coordinated and cost-effective system of home and community-based services that helps elderly individuals maintain their health and independence in their homes and communities.

Aid & Attendance and House Bound Benefits
is a benefit paid in addition to monthly veteran pension and disability compensation. This benefit may not be paid without eligibility to pension. A & A can be used to pay for adult day care, skilled nursing care and home care. It also can be used to pay a family member other than a spouse to care for the veteran at home.

Air Compassion for Veterans
ACV ensures that no financially-stressed wounded warrior / veteran / active duty military person or their family member(s) is denied access to distant specialized medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, or rehabilitation for lack of a means of long-distance medical air transportation. ACV provides air transportation to Wounded Warriors.

American Combat Veterans of War (ACVOW)
ACVOW is a nonprofit organization that recruits combat veteran volunteers to mentor, coach and assist our warriors suffering from combat stress, allowing them and their families to lead productive and fulfilling lives.


American Corporate Partners
American Corporate Partners is a nationwide mentoring program which is matching employees from some of the largest corporations and universities in the country with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans for the purpose of mentoring, networking and career counseling.  ACP is dedicated to helping veterans transition from the armed services to private enterprise


American Military Retirees Association
An advocacy organization for military retirees and veterans and their families.

Army Retirement Services
Army Retirement Services provides information on benefits and entitlements to active duty Soldiers and families preparing for retirement and to retired Soldiers and families.

Arlington Cemetery Call Center
Families with questions or concerns regarding their loved ones buried at Arlington National Cemetery should call (703) 607-8199. The call center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. To 5 p.m. (ET).  

Bravo Zulu Network
Established to strengthen the US veteran community, help veterans find careers & get hired, continue transition support, and help veterans find military friends & network.

Career Center for the Military Severely Injured Center
Military.com, in partnership with the DoD, has information and resources for injured veterans looking for employment. There is also a job search available online.

Cleaning for Heroes
Cleaning for Heroes is the only non-profit dedicated to to providing free house cleaning, home and repair services to disabled veterans in need.

Department of Veterans Affairs
The VA is the federal agency responsible for overseeing the interests of veterans and their family members. Some of its programs and offices include:

  • CHAMPVA is a federal health benefits program administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Board of Veterans' Appeals
    Members of the Board review benefit claims determinations made by local VA offices and issue decision on appeals. 
  • Compensation Work Therapy
    Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) is a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) vocational rehabilitation program that endeavors to match and support work ready veterans in competitive jobs, and to consult with business and industry regarding their specific employment needs. In some locations CWT is also known as Veterans Industries; these designations are synonymous.
  • Foster Homes for Veterans
    VA's Medical Foster Home (MFH) program finds a caregiver in the community who is willing to provide a Veteran with 24-hour supervision and personal assistance.
  • National Center for PTSD
  • The NCPTSD website offers information about the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of PTSD.
  • Montgomery GI Bill
  • The GI Bill provides education benefits to veterans.
  • MyHealtheVet

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA)
Shows its support of Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom by offering a one-year membership as well as a convention registration at no charge.

Helmets to Hard Hats
Helmets to Hard Hats is a construction job placement website which allows military personnel to post their resume online and review construction jobs in their area for employment opportunities. An account is created on the website in order to upload a resume and contact future employers.

Hire A Hero
This non-profit organization is a professional networking site that helps military members transition from the service back into civilian life.

Hire Vets First
The Hire Vets First website is provided by the Department of Labor to assist veterans and returning reservists find jobs.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA)
Founded in 2004, IVAC is dedicated to providing advocacy and other resources for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Knollwood/Army Distaff Foundation

National Alliance for Caregiving
Established in 1996, The National Alliance for Caregiving is a non-profit coalition of national organizations focusing on issues of family caregiving. Alliance members include grassroots organizations, professional associations, service organizations, disease-specific organizations, a government agency, and corporations.

National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO)
NACVSO officers serve as liaisons between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Servicemembers, family members and survivors.

National Call Center for Homeless Veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) has founded a National Call Center for Homeless Veterans hotline to ensure that homeless Veterans or Veterans at-risk for homelessness have free, 24/7 access to trained counselors.

National Caregiver Support Line
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of a toll-free National Caregiver Support Line 1-855-260-3274. The Caregiver Support Line was created to recognize the significant contributions made by caregivers allowing Veterans to remain at home surrounded by family and friends. Open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

National Veterans Training Institute (National VTI)
The primary purpose of the DVOP/LVER Locator is to provide the user with the ability to quickly locate other veterans’ service professionals in a particular geographic area.

The National Veterans Upward Bound Program
The Veterans Upward Bound Program is a free U.S. Department of Education program designed to help veterans refresh their academic skills and receive a college degree. The program focuses on basic skill development to help veterans complete a high school equivalency test and apply to college, short-term remedial or refresher classes for high school graduates, assistance with college and financial aid applications, along with academic advice and career counseling.

Normandy Veterans' Association

The VA's hot line is staffed by mental health professionals who take toll-free calls, from across the country 24 hours a day, seven days a week and work closely with local VA mental-health providers to help callers.

Veterans Airlift Command
The Veterans Airlift Command (VAC) provides free air transportation to wounded warriors, veterans and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots.  Veterans of Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) is VAC's top priority. As capacity allows, their mission will expand to serve veterans of other conflicts.

Veteran's Crisis Line
The Veterans Crisis Line is a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs resource that connects Veterans in crisis and their families with qualified, caring VA professionals through a confidential toll-free hotline and on-line chat.
