The commissary at Fort Riley, Kan., will mark the completion of a massive renovation and addition project with a six-day grand reopening celebration, beginning March 13. The event will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m., and the store will open immediately following. There will be no early bird shopping on March 13.
“Our customers have been very patient while we were making these improvements. Now it’s time to reward them,” said Store Director Peter Howell. “Commissary vendors will be offering contests and special grand reopening prices on products throughout the store.”
Grand reopening prices will run from Tuesday, March 13, through Sunday, March 18, or while supplies of promotionally priced items last.
But, shoppers don’t have to wait until March 13 to participate. Beginning March 5, they can enter contest drawings at the Fort Riley Commissary and play Commissary Sweepstakes on the Fort Riley Morale, Welfare and Recreation Facebook page.
March 5−12, customers can enter drawings at the Fort Riley Commissary for a chance to play in one of three contests offered by commissary vendors:
· General Mills will offer “Crack the Safe,” giving 50 randomly selected customers the opportunity to crack a four-digit code and win $50,000.
· DeLallo Olives will offer “Olive Toss,” giving randomly selected contestants a chance to win $10,000 by being the first to toss an olive into a martini glass.
· Kraft will offer “Two and 20 Envelope Draw,” giving two randomly selected customers the opportunity to win $25,000 by selecting the two envelopes with the words “Go” and “Army” from a group of 20 envelopes.
Also March 5−12, customers can log on to the Fort Riley MWR Facebook page to enter a “Commissary Sweepstakes.” Follow the prompts and answer commissary questions correctly and your name will be entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes. One grand prize winner will be announced Tuesday, March 13, and two second place winners will be announced Saturday, March 17. Winners will be announced in the Fort Riley Commissary and on the Fort Riley MWR Facebook page.
On March 13 and 17, customers will have more chances to win in the Fort Riley Commissary by enjoying food samples provided by commissary vendors and by spinning a wheel for a chance to win a commissary gift card and other prizes.
Regardless of luck, all shoppers entering the Fort Riley Commissary will feel like a winner in their new store, Howell said. The renovation and addition project increased the size of the store by nearly 75 percent and replaced all refrigeration systems and display cases. Eight checkouts were added, and the interior boasts a new, colorful décor.
“Every department in the store is much larger,” said Howell. “Our focus has always been on providing world-class customer service, and this store helps us deliver.
“We’ve scaled up the stock assortment from 14,000 to 19,000 line items. That’s significant,” Howell continued. “Many of the additions are specialty products and club packs.”
As the renovation progressed over the past two years, products were moved and are not necessarily in the same location they were before the renovation began. Large signs hanging in the middle of each aisle will help customers find products, and a store map is available in racks at both store entrances.
“Commissary associates are available on the sales floor to help any shopper who needs assistance,” Howell said. “If a customer has a question or is having trouble finding a product, we want them to ask any one of our associates for help.”
