The Association of the United States Army’s Council of Trustees elected Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody, USA, Ret., as a new member of the Association’s council.Dunwoody was elected to AUSA’s governing body to fill the unexpired term of Hon. Valerie Baldwin who has returned to work for the federal government on the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security.Dunwoody recently retired after 37-plus years of service to the nation and earned the historic distinction of being the first woman in U.S. military history to achieve the rank of four-star general.Retiring as the commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, she was responsible for the Army’s research and development, installation and contingency contracting, foreign military sales, security assistance, supply chain management, all Army depots supporting supply and maintenance functions, manufacturing sites, and ammunition plants.For four years she led the largest global logistics command in the Army with 69,000 military personnel and civilians, located in all 50 states and over 140 countries.She managed a budget of $60 billion dollars and was responsible for oversight of approximately $70 billion in service contracts.Dunwoody also managed the Army’s global supply chain in support of Iraq and Afghanistan, contingency operations in Haiti, Pakistan, and Japan, while simultaneously moving the command headquarters from Fort Belvoir, Va., to Huntsville, Ala., as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC).Dunwoody is currently the president of First 2 Four, LLC, a leadership mentoring and strategic advisory services company.She also serves on the board of directors of L-3 Communications, Republic Services, and the Logistics Management Institute.
